From bottlenecks to data products: highlights from the 6th Data Mesh Belgium Meetup

4 November 2025 - The 6th Data Mesh Belgium Meetup brought together data enthusiasts, practitioners, and industry leaders, filling the room for an evening of insights, networking, and innovation.

Our meetups bring together like-minded professionals eager to dive deeper into Data Mesh. This time, we had two fascinating talks that sparked lively discussions.

Key takeaways from the talks

🎙️ Semantic Web for Data Products – Stefan Driessen

Stefan explored how Semantic Web Ontologies like ProMoTe and DPROD make data product creation and validation both human- and machine-friendly. The big takeaway? Clear definition of data product components bridges the gap between requirements we all want for data products, and architecture needed to make them work.

🎙️Transitioning from a central bottleneck data team towards business enabling data services – Stefan Van Raemdonck & Tom Holsteens

Brussels Airlines has transitioned from a "spaghetti" to a "tapas" architecture, serving data products on Databricks for last-mile, self-service analytics by business teams. This shift to a hub-and-spoke operating model has reduced the central data team's bottleneck, potentially paving the way for a Data Mesh implementation.

A special thank you to Dataminded for hosting this edition and helping make it a great success!
